Background
The FilmCentrum association was
established in 1968 as a mean to strengthen the position
of the "free cinematographers" in various
cities in Sweden. The task of the association is to
support active, independent filmmakers and represent
the interest of its members in the ongoing debate on
temporary culture.
FilmCentrum is a Non Governmental Organization and its
various branches in Sweden have around 500 members today.
The national association of FilmCentrum located in Stockholm
has as its main task the distribution of
films and documentaries to schools and institutions.
On behalf of finding a
media to distribute the documentaries, short- and noncommercial
film made by its members, FilmCentrum founded Folkets
Bio in 1973. Today there are Folkets Bio cinemas in
most of the largest cities in Sweden.
